It starts to heat up in April, with hot dry days and threatening skies in the afternoons. You'll be able to cool off during the Songkran Water Festival, which is a religious festival that masquerades as a massive water fight! 

 

Cool mornings (mid 70's!) turn into hot days (mid 90's and sometimes more!), but there's always the chance to cool off skating through the waterfights or by visiting a waterfall or a river.

Songkran is also a time for ritual bathing of respected elders and ancestors. We will visit Jai's father and wash him and seek his blessings for the New Year.

 

The roads in town are a zoo (fun zoo, people dancing, drinking, playing with water and talcum powder) in the afternoons. Only kids who aren't hungover from the raucous night before are out throwing water in the mornings, so roads in the countryside are generally pretty free and clear.
